Guten Tag!

I made it to Germany! As I power-walked through my connection in Paris and then arrived at the airport in Basel my thoughts surprised me. I found myself fascinated by all the blue eyes and blond hair. I couldn't stop checking out all the fun clothes I saw walking past me. It was so weird to be fascinated by what was once so normal and mundane. I found a wonderful woman waiting to drive me over to the little town of Kandern, Germany where I'm attending classes for the next two weeks. As we drove through the cute little town I was amazed by how clean and new everything looks, and how fresh everything smells.

I had forgotten that it rains in the summer. In North Africa it is pretty much sunny every day between April and October, so I hadn't even thought to pack an umbrella. We've had thunderstorms every evening here - so I borrowed one :)

One thing that has been weird is not being able to communicate. It's good for me though because it's giving me a reminder of what so many of my co-workers go through when they arrive in North Africa. Perhaps my German vocabulary will progress a little in these two weeks!

OK - off to do homework!

Not sure what time it is for you now, but expect that it is "guten abend"!
Glad you made it safely. Hope the 2 weeks go by quickly, are truly profitable, and that you are not totally "up to your ears" in study. If I know you, you will find a way to mix meal time explorations and time new found friends so that you can experience all that surrounds you ast times when you are not in class and/or studying :)

Hallo and guten morgen!
So how did your first day of classes go?
Just found a neat site you might like to look up...I just spent a few minutes having fun refreshing German vocab learned 40+ years ago!!! (the site is pasted at the end of this post.)

If you get a chance to venture out after classes, be sure to try veal...it is cut very thin, lightly breaded, and then cooked in a pan on the stove. Any kind of wurst is good in a bun, and of course, any cheeses/desserts are good :)

See you in a few weeks!

Hey Scott,
Want to give us a translation? :) Does the first sentence say that you hope Beq's time in Germany is pleasant? What about the other 2?
just curious!

ok, so babel fish (translation site) does not do slang very well,of course, so it makes for interesting translations. I found out that Rehe, a city in Germany means deer for instance.

Classes are going great, although I'm not sure how I'm getting all my homework done tonight! I don't have easy access to the web, so don't expect to hear much til I get back to NJ on July 8 :) Miss you all!

You know, any moment now, you'll no longer have good excuses for not posting a steady supply of fresh content to your blog.
